Our  Story

Rocky Mountain Dog was created to bring us together. Our mission is to inspire others to explore the mountains making memories along the way with their dog.

The mountains are our cathedral, they are bigger than life. Whether you're a mountaineer, day hiker, skier or trail runner we all have one thing in common.  The mountains remind us our problems are small in the grand scheme of things and that there is beauty in everything around us, to live in that moment.

And if you connect the two, there is something special. Choosing dogs and the mountains that surround us changes lives.

So what's it going to be, are you going to lead an ordinary life or are you going to dare to be different? We thought so... be different and join us, be wild, and never settle.
How We Started

We may have bitten off more than we can chew, no pun intended, when we decided to start a dog company. That was a couple of years ago now and to be honest with you, it didn't do very well.

A few years ago, we built an e-commerce site on Shopify, called PetForest, and thought people would come, but nobody came. It was a dropship model pet store with a ton of products that we didn't own or brand. We learned an important lesson from that experience... a brand is everything.

We went back to the drawing board after our first attempt but it took some time to formulate. Over time, it became more and more clear, we wanted to connect your experiences with the outdoors and your dog and be part of that moment making memories that will last a lifetime.  

That's how Rocky Mountain Dog was born. But it all started with Butch, without him none of this would have happened, he's the inspiration and face of the brand.

We are a lifestyle brand that sells adventure gear to dogs. Our mission is to inspire others to explore the mountains making memories along the way with their dog.

We build gear that is meant for the mountains, for the outdoors, for the harsh conditions of rain, snow, heat and cold. We also know it's not just about the gear, it's a lifestyle.

We're starting from the ground up. We developed the logo, designed all of the gear, sourced suppliers, built a following on social media, paid for all the inventory, worked on the website, dealt with setbacks and have got it this far.

Now we need your help, yes you, we need you to follow us on social media, tell people about RMD, share your stories and buy our gear! Without demand there is no product.

We've differentiated our product with designs from the Rocky Mountains in the webbing of the collar and leashes including Rundle Mountain and Moraine Lake and more designs coming soon.

Every design, every product, every thought revolves around the Rocky Mountains, a place we love and is iconic around the world. All of our products are tested in our backyard.
